With the rebranding of the LIQ Bar, we have created a place that combines retro vibes with innovative indulgence. What began as a classic speak-easy bar, David Rippen, as the most innovative bartender in 2023, has developed into a meeting place that celebrates the pop culture of the 80s and 90s – in the cocktails, on the walls and in the atmosphere.
But how do you bring back the charm of the 80s and 90s without sinking into nostalgia? Our approach: to design the identity of the LIQ Bar in such a way that it reflects both the quality of the drinks and the playful character of the concept. The minimalist logo, bright colors and flexible design create a brand that is fun and recognizable while leaving room for creative expansion.

The LIQ Bar is a journey through time – visually, in terms of taste and atmosphere. The iconic Tetris blocks on the ceiling are the cornerstone of the concept: retro vibes, video games, neon lights and cocktails that can hardly be found on any menu today. With homages to iconic characters, series and films, the LIQ Bar continues to develop iconic cocktails. How about “the Magnum his Colada”? Hawaii comes straight to Düsseldorf with the first sip, without a floral shirt.
Our design picks up on this concept and makes the brand tangible: the minimalist logo provides a strong foundation, while the design blends in with the colorful surroundings. The color palette – strong purple, pink and the dark midnight blue – transports the neon aesthetic of the 80s and ensures an unmistakable overall image.
A cocktail evening is about more than just drinks – it’s about the experience. When you give a gift voucher, you’re not just passing on a sum of money, you’re giving the gift of time with friends. And you should have just as fond memories of them as VHS tapes, including a colorful slipcase – a detail that immediately brings back memories. The cocktail card pays homage to classic arcade games, with pixelated design elements that emphasize the playful character of the brand.
The brand also remains alive online: The signature cocktails are staged with a series of entertaining and deliberately exaggerated Instagram reels – not as a recipe, but as an experience. After all, the LIQ Bar is not just about taste, but also about the vibe of each drink.
The website also picks up on the intense colors of the LIQ Bar and serves as a central information platform for the visit, making guests’ mouths water in advance with the signature drinks. After a short time, it has already recorded over 50,000 impressions.
